Best Acrylic Paint Markers | Episode 1 | Artistro Acrylic Paint Markers
Overview - ★☆☆☆☆
These markers serve their purpose fine. Not the worst, not the best. You'll find them to be competent for their price point if you have a few one-off jobs to do. Anything serious and you should look to other brands.
Pros
- Good price
- Lots of nicer colors
- Some shades have a really nice opacity
- Air-tight lid
Overall, these are only competent. There isn't much good to stress here except the $1.02 per marker. The lid is nice and airtight. I was able to leave them alone for about a month after activating with no dried paint on the tips.
Cons
- Delicate nibs
- High color variance
- Low opacity
- No names of colors on pens
- Not eco-friendly
- Must buy in packs
- Hard to activate
Not only are these very easy to break while activating, it'll take you forever, too. I was pumping on these pens for ages. By the time I finish with an aching wrist, the color quality was disappointing. When you first put the colors on, they look like they have great coverage. After the colors dry, you see most of the pigmentation has somehow gone away.
If you run out of one color you use a lot you have to buy a whole new pack. Meaning these are far from the eco-friendly choice.
Opacity Tests
Below you'll find the opacity tests. These were done on double-coated cardstock. The black used here is Sharpie marker which has no streaking with these markers. The red is Uni Posca Marker, Red.
The "1" stands for "1 coat". The "2" stands for "2 coats". The lines show horizontal application. The circle over black shows circular application. The middle shows a fill to the true hue over no background. The red background shows a textured background interaction.
These are as close to real life as I could get them.
